Fubara sacks Rivers Executive Council, orders immediate transition

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has sacked the State Executive Council and ordered immediate transition to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries.

The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement signed by Onwuka Nzeshi, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor

According to the statement, the governor ordered all Commissioners and Special Advisers to immediately hand over their duties to the Permanent Secretaries or the highest-ranking officials in their respective ministries.

Governor Fubara wished the departing Executive Council members luck in their future endeavours and thanked them for their contribution to the state.

The sack happened 48 hours after Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) minister, acknowledged attempts at reconciliation to end the state’s long-running political crisis.

According to the minister, President Bola Tinubu met with important Rivers State political figures, such as Governor Fubara and his predecessor, in an effort to resolve tensions brought on by the power struggle in the oil-rich state.
