In Enugu State, streets gleam with freshly paved roads, but inside homes, darkness and thirst tell a different story. Chief Basil Ani, senior All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, has painted a stark picture: while Governor Peter Mbah’s administration boasts of monumental infrastructure, ordinary families still struggle for life’s most basic necessities — water and electricity.
“People move freely on roads that shine like gold,” Ani said, “but when they return home, they pay exorbitant prices for water or live in darkness. Roads don’t quench thirst, they don’t light homes.”
Water tanker costs have surged from N12,000 to N35,000 per 1,000 gallons, leaving urban and rural families desperate. Ani recalled Mbah’s 2023 campaign promise to deliver water to every household within 180 days — a pledge yet to materialize for many.
In contrast, neighboring Abia State under Governor Alex Otti has become a lifeline for its residents, restoring electricity to 33 communities, reviving businesses, and illuminating homes. The 141-megawatt Geometric Power Plant now powers nine local government areas, bringing factories and markets back to life.
