Two Midnight Fires Destroy Shops in Anambra

Two separate midnight fire outbreaks have destroyed shops and buildings in Awka, Anambra State. The incidents occurred at Nwafor Plaza, off Oby Okoli Avenue near UNIZIK Junction, and at Igiligi Lane, off Godwill Junction, Okpuno.

The first fire started at about 11:05 pm on Tuesday, while the second broke out at about 12:08 am this Wednesday. The Media and Publicity Unit of the Anambra State Fire Service confirmed the incidents this Wednesday, stating that firefighters were deployed immediately after receiving distress calls.

According to the Fire Service, two shops were affected at each location before the blazes were brought under control, and no casualties were recorded. A preliminary investigation linked the Nwafor Plaza fire to a power surge, while the cause of the Igiligi Lane incident remains under investigation.

The Fire Service urged residents and business owners to install surge protectors, carry out regular electrical inspections, and promptly report fire incidents, assuring that it remains committed to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
