Australia says no plans to join attacks against Iran

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong told the country Nine Network on Monday that Canberra had no plans to join the joint US-Israel military campaign against Iran.

“We didn’t participate in these strikes and we wouldn’t anticipate participating in the future,” Wong said.

Australia has had a tense relationship with Iran. In 2025 it expelled the Iranian ambassador to Canberra after accusing the Iranian Revolutionary Guard of orchestrating antisemitic arson attacks in Sydney and Melbourne — allegations that Tehran rejected.

In the past, Australia has been part of US-led military campaigns, including in Iraq in 2003.
