Appeal Court Judgment Sparks Fresh Call for PDP Unity
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has urged party leaders to unite and end the internal crisis affecting the opposition party.
Olawepo-Hashim made the call this Monday after the Court of Appeal of Nigeria dismissed an appeal challenging the ruling of the Federal High Court of Nigeria on the party’s disputed national convention.
The appellate court ruled that the Federal High Court had the authority to hear the case and found that the party did not meet key legal requirements before holding the convention.
The court also noted that the required notice was not properly served to the Independent National Electoral Commission and that valid congresses were not conducted in more than 14 states.
Following the ruling, Olawepo-Hashim urged all factions within the PDP to settle their differences and focus on rebuilding the party.
