Iran hires lèthal elite kìll squad to guard Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei
Iran has deployed its elite counterterr0rism unit, NOPO, to protect newly appointed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei following the assàssinatiòn of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The black-clad force, originally formed in 1991 from the 28th Ruhollah Division, specializes in hostage rescues, internal security, and protest supprèssion.
Ali Safavi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran noted that NOPO was not previously tasked with protecting Khamenei but will likely now safeguard the new leader after a US-Israel strike on a Tehran compound on February 28.
