An attack by suspected armed bandits on security operatives in Giro Masa community, Shanga Local Government Area, has reportedly resulted in the deaths of several soldiers and police personnel, alongside two civilians.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, is believed to have been a coordinated ambush targeting a joint security team operating in the area. Local sources said the operatives were caught off guard by heavily armed assailants, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.

Residents disclosed that the attackers, suspected to be bandits, stormed the community in large numbers, overwhelming the security personnel. In the process, two community members were also killed, while several others sustained injuries and fled for safety.

Shanga and surrounding areas in Kebbi State have in recent times witnessed sporadic attacks linked to armed groups operating along border regions, raising concerns about the growing security challenges in the state.

Although official confirmation from military or police authorities was yet to be issued at the time of filing this report, the latest incident underscores the persistent threat posed by banditry and the vulnerability of rural communities.

Efforts to restore calm are reportedly underway, with additional security deployments expected to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.
