LIRS Extends Deadline for Individual Tax Filing to April 14

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns by two weeks, moving it from March 31 to April 14, 2026.

The agency says the extension is meant to give taxpayers additional time to complete and submit accurate returns, while urging Nigerians to avoid complacency and treat filing as a routine obligation.

Chairman of LIRS, Ayodele Subair, explained that the statutory deadline remains March 31 but the one-off extension will ease compliance, stressing that all submissions must be made electronically through the LIRS eTax portal as manual filing has been completely phased out.

Subair added that the eTax platform is secure, user-friendly, and accessible 24/7, and advised taxpayers to ensure their Tax Identification Numbers are correctly captured to avoid errors in submissions.

He warned that individuals should prioritise timely filing and treat compliance as a routine personal responsibility, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to streamlining and securing tax processes in Lagos State.
