Kalu Pledges Support for Additional South-East State

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has reiterated his support for the creation of an additional state in the South-East region, suggesting Anioma as a viable option.

Anioma is a combination of Anambra, Imo and the proposed Anioma State, a new state proposal for the Igbo-speaking part of the Delta.

Kalu made this known this Wednesday, while receiving stakeholders of the Anioma State Movement during a courtesy visit to his office.

He emphasised that the creation of a new state requires collaboration among governors and key stakeholders across the South-East and South-South regions, urging proponents to embrace compromise and unity to achieve the objective.

Kalu also assured that the proposal remains a priority under the constitution review process, noting that its success would depend on constructive engagement, consensus-building and adherence to key criteria such as economic viability and cultural identity.
