Court Vacates Turaki’s Arrest Warrant, Adjourns Arraignment to April 22
A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has set aside the arrest warrant previously issued against a factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kabiru Turaki.
The presiding judge, Peter Kekemeke, vacated the warrant this Wednesday, in Abuja after the defendant appeared in court and his counsel made an application for its withdrawal.
The court had earlier issued the warrant following Turaki’s failure to attend his scheduled arraignment over a one-count charge filed by the Nigeria Police Force, but his lawyer explained that his absence was not deliberate and apologised to the court.
The court subsequently struck out the defence application challenging the warrant and adjourned the case until April 22 for arraignment after noting that the purpose of the arrest order had been fulfilled.
