11 Killed, 50 Houses Razed in Nasarawa state Communal Clash

At least 11 persons have been confirmed dead and more than 50 houses destroyed following a violent communal crisis between Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, has been described as a reprisal attack, with authorities confirming that a total of 52 houses were set ablaze during the violence.

Local sources said the clash led to widespread destruction, forcing many residents to flee their homes for safety as properties were torched and livelihoods disrupted. The scale of the damage has raised concerns over humanitarian needs in the affected communities.

The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the killings and destruction, noting that security operatives have since been deployed to the troubled areas to restore calm and prevent further escalation.

While the immediate trigger of the latest violence remains unclear, communal clashes in the area have often been linked to longstanding disputes, including issues surrounding land ownership and local rivalries.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to stabilise the situation, as tension remains high in the communities affected by the deadly confrontation.

More details are expected to emerge as investigations continue.
