Soldiers Arrest 15 Suspected Oil Thieves Near Dangote Refinery Discharge Point
Troops of the Nigerian Army have apprehended 15 suspected oil thieves in the Ibeju-Lekki axis of Lagos State, in a move aimed at curbing economic sabotage around critical national infrastructure.
The suspects were reportedly arrested near the discharge point of the Dangote Refinery, a key facility in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. Military sources indicated that the operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the activities of individuals allegedly involved in siphoning petroleum products in the area.
Items believed to be used for illegal oil bunkering, including hoses and containers, were recovered during the raid. The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation, with authorities expected to hand them over to relevant agencies for prosecution.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting strategic assets and tackling crude oil theft, which continues to pose a significant threat to the country’s economy. It also warned criminal elements to desist from illegal activities or face the full weight of the law.
The Ibeju-Lekki corridor has increasingly come under surveillance due to its proximity to major oil and gas installations, including the Dangote Refinery, as security agencies intensify efforts to safeguard investments and ensure uninterrupted operations.
