Police Nab Four Suspected Bandits, Recover Rifles in Kaduna
The Nigeria Police Force has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against violent crime, following the arrest of four suspected bandits and the recovery of a cache of firearms in Kaduna State.
The operation, described as intelligence-driven, was carried out by police operatives in Sanga Local Government Area, specifically within the Tayu community, an area that has witnessed security concerns in recent months. The suspects — Abdumumini Abubakar (40), Maikano Gambo (47), Saleh Thompson (47), and Oyonyi Odango (40) — were apprehended on March 7, 2026, after what authorities said was a carefully coordinated raid based on credible intelligence.
Security sources disclosed that the operation led to the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, 80 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a locally fabricated pistol, as well as 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition. The seizure is considered significant given the role such weapons play in sustaining banditry and other violent criminal activities across parts of northern Nigeria.
Preliminary investigations, according to police insiders, have already linked the arrested individuals to ongoing banditry operations within the Sanga axis and surrounding communities. Authorities believe the suspects are part of a broader criminal network, with efforts now intensified to identify and apprehend other accomplices still at large.
Reacting to the development, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift action. He reiterated the Force’s resolve to dismantle criminal syndicates and restore public confidence in security agencies across the country.
The police leadership further assured residents that operations targeting banditry, kidnapping, and arms proliferation will continue to be scaled up, particularly in vulnerable communities. The latest arrests underscore what authorities describe as a renewed momentum in intelligence-led policing aimed at curbing insecurity nationwide.
