Paul Ikonne Joins Abia South Senatorial Race
The contest for the Abia South Senatorial seat intensified this Wednesday as All Progressives Congress chieftain Prince Paul Ikonne officially picked up his expression of interest and nomination forms for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Speaking after obtaining the documents in Abuja, Ikonne declared that the incumbent, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, should prepare to vacate his position after nearly twenty years of what he described as ineffective representation.
The former Executive Secretary of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority argued that the district has failed to see meaningful development under the current leadership and needs a representative who can better align the area with federal government interests.
He criticized Senator Abaribe for being more focused on media attention than grassroots service and expressed his commitment to bringing tangible infrastructure and empowerment programs to the people of Abia South.
This move comes as the All Progressives Congress officially opened its sale of forms following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s schedule which sets the National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027.
