ADC Confirms Atiku’s ₦90 Million Payment For Presidential Nomination Form

Mr. Atiku, who turned 80 this year, has declared that the 2027 election will be his final attempt at the presidency. “Certainly yes, because the stakes are higher and I believe that will be my last outing,” he said during an interview with Arise Television. His entry into the ADC presidential race sets the stage for a contest with other notable aspirants, including former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, both of whom have also obtained the party’s nomination form. Mr. Hayatu-Deen, who was the first to pick up the form last week, said the election must focus on restoring economic stability, tackling insecurity, creating jobs, and reducing the cost of living, stating, “We cannot build prosperity in an atmosphere of fear and instability”.
The ADC has set the sale of its expression of interest and nomination forms for various elective offices from May 6 to May 13, with presidential aspirants paying ₦90 million. The party has maintained a concessionary policy offering 50 percent discounts to youths aged 18 to 35, and 25 percent discounts to women and persons living with disabilities.
The development comes amid ongoing political realignments. Mr. Atiku left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in late 2025 to join the ADC, which he has described as the only platform capable of rescuing Nigeria from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The APC has dismissed the ADC’s chances, describing Mr. Atiku as a “serial loser” who has failed to stabilise any political party he has joined. The ruling party has already adopted President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), party primaries and the resolution of related disputes will take place between April 23 and May 30, 2026, while campaigns for the presidential election will begin on August 19, 2026. The presidential and National Assembly elections have been fixed for January 16, 2027
