Alex Otti Says Federal Government Won’t Reimburse Abia for Road Projects
Governor Alex Otti has dismissed speculations that the Federal Government would reimburse Abia for federal road projects executed by the state, saying authorities have no such plans.
Speaking at his monthly media session, Otti explained that the current federal policy allows states to toll roads if they wish to recoup costs, and he sympathized with those spreading misinformation about reimbursement.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fixing all critical roads in Abia, including federal and state routes, stressing that engagements with the federal government precede any work and must be formally ceded in writing.
The governor also addressed compensation for the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Road rehabilitation, noting that any compensation would fall under the Federal Government since the project was awarded without funding, while updating on state security and the planned state police.
Otti further confirmed he would run for re-election on the Labour Party platform in 2027 and described progress on electric buses in the state as “exciting,” with 50 buses expected in total by July.
