Anambra Denies Introducing New Burial Law
The Anambra State Government has dismissed reports claiming that it introduced a new burial law banning lavish funeral ceremonies and expensive condolence gifts.
The clarification was made through the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor and Special Adviser to the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Franklin Osankwa.
Osankwa said the reports circulating on social media were false and misleading, insisting that the current assembly did not introduce, debate or pass any new burial law.
He explained that the burial regulatory framework being referenced was originally enacted in 2019, long before the inauguration of the present eighth Assembly.
The state government also urged residents to disregard the reports and rely only on verified legislative information from official government channels.
