The Lagos State Police Command has issued a stern directive banning officers from searching citizens’ mobile phones at checkpoints and during routine patrols. The command emphasized that such actions constitute a violation of privacy and are outside the professional mandate of officers unless a warrant is provided or the device is directly linked to an ongoing criminal investigation. This move is aimed at curbing harassment and extortion, which have frequently been reported by the public.
