Ofemili Union in Awka North LGA, appeals to Governor Soludo to ensure that the Local Government Chairmanship position goes to the Ofemili zone as agreed by the people of Awka North.

The Ofemili Union in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State has called for the equitable rotation of the office of the Mayor between the Enu-Ana and Ofemili zones that make up the council area, in line with an agreement reached several years ago, as a way of ensuring fairness, equity, lasting peace, and harmony in the area.

The union, which is the umbrella body of the five communities that make up the Ofemili zone of Awka North Local Government Area, including Amansea, Ebenebe, Ugbenu, Ugbene, and Awba-Ofemili, made the demand during a special apex meeting held at the Civic Centre, Ebenebe.

The Union maintained that the principles of equity, fairness, and inclusiveness demand the rotational sharing of the political offices of Local Government Chairman and House of Assembly, as already adopted between the Enu-Ana and Ofemili constituencies of Awka North, and that sustained political harmony and development in Awka North can only be achieved when no constituency is marginalized or perpetually excluded from leadership opportunities.

In a communiqué issued by the union and read by its Chairman, Reverend Felix Eke, a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, it was made clear that it is the turn of Ofemili to produce the Chairman, as the Enu-Ana zone has occupied the position for two consecutive terms, stressing the union’s full support and advocacy for the immediate and continuous implementation of the rotational political arrangement in the council area.

The group appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his developmental strides in Awka North, including the construction of the Amansea–Ebenebe–Ugbenu–Ugbene–Awba-Ofemili Road, among others, and appealed to him to ensure that the Chairmanship position goes to the Ofemili zone as agreed by the people of Awka North, by ensuring that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the Chairmanship position emerges from Ofemili.

It also called on all political parties to present their candidates from the Ofemili zone in the interest of equity and fairness.
