ICPC Raids El-Rufai’s Abuja Residence
Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have reportedly raided the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as part of ongoing investigations into alleged financial improprieties during his tenure in office.
The development comes amid confirmation by the anti-corruption agency that El-Rufai is currently in its custody over matters linked to financial transactions and projects executed under his administration between 2015 and 2023.
Sources familiar with the investigation said the search of his residence formed part of efforts to obtain documents and other materials considered relevant to the probe. However, ICPC officials have not publicly detailed the scope or outcome of the operation.
El-Rufai was earlier detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations involving about ₦432 billion in state funds and loan-related transactions flagged by the Kaduna State House of Assembly after a review of his administration’s finances. He was subsequently released to ICPC custody for further questioning.
The former governor is also facing separate federal charges under cybercrime and communications laws over statements in a television interview in which he allegedly admitted to accessing the private communications of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
Neither El-Rufai nor his aides have issued a formal statement on the reported raid and ongoing investigations as of press time. The ICPC has also not announced any charges directly arising from the search.
The probe into El-Rufai’s eight-year administration has intensified in recent weeks, placing the former governor at the centre of overlapping investigations by multiple federal agencies.
