BRIGHTON STUN MANCHESTER UNITED WITH CRAZY COMEBACK AT OLD TRAFFORD

Brighton & Hove Albion produced a remarkable comeback at Old Trafford on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, defeating Manchester United 3–2 in the third round of the Carabao Cup. United appeared to be in control after establishing a two-goal advantage, but Brighton dramatically turned the match around to secure a place in the next round.

Manchester United made the perfect start, with academy graduate Shea Lacey and Mason Mount putting the home side two goals ahead. With the advantage secured, United looked on course to progress, but Brighton refused to surrender. The visitors gradually increased the pressure and found a way back into the contest, setting up an extraordinary second half.

Brighton’s response was outstanding. Charalampos Kostoulas pulled one goal back before Pascal Groß equalised, giving the visitors renewed belief. Maxim De Cuyper then completed the turnaround, sending Brighton ahead and leaving Old Trafford stunned. The comeback meant United surrendered a two-goal lead at home, an especially notable occurrence in the club’s history.

For Manchester United, the defeat represents another disappointing cup night at Old Trafford and brings their Carabao Cup campaign to an early end. The result also comes only days after their 1–0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City, making the immediate period particularly difficult for Michael Carrick’s side.

Brighton, meanwhile, demonstrated considerable resilience and attacking character. After their impressive 5–0 league victory over Coventry City before this match, they followed it with another statement performance on the road. Their ability to recover from two goals down and ultimately win 3–2 will make this one of the most memorable results of their early-season campaign.

Final: Manchester United 2–3 Brighton & Hove Albion.
