Forget fugu, Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council declares March 23–31, 2026 as Ashanti Kente Week as part of AshantiFest and Ghana Month activities
Something colourful is coming up in Kumasi and the entire Ashanti Region.
The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council has announced that March 23 to March 31, 2026 will be celebrated as Ashanti Kente Week, part of the activities for AshantiFest and Ghana Month.
In simple terms, officials are saying, “Just add a touch of Kente to what you wear.”
A statement signed by Chief Director Michael Owusu Amoako encourages government offices, companies, churches, and mosques to join the celebration.
You don’t necessarily have to wrap the full cloth. A scarf, tie, ribbon, brooch, pocket square, even a small Kente design on your outfit will do.
The big celebration will happen on March 31 at the Kumasi Cultural Centre, where there will be cultural displays, traditional food, music, and Jama.
Interestingly, culture and clothing debates have been trending lately.
Some people even got mad when John Dramani Mahama hyped fugu recently, and later it was announced as a Wednesday wear idea for Ghanaians.
