Police Urge Calm Ahead of Planned Electricity Protest in Anambra
Tension is rising in Anambra State ahead of a planned protest over poor electricity supply and alleged overestimated billing, as the Nigeria Police Force urged organisers to pursue peaceful engagement.
The protest, tagged “Enough Is Enough,” is being organised by the Electricity Consumers’ Network led by activist Osita Obi, to highlight the concerns of electricity consumers in the state.
Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga said the command held a meeting with organisers in Awka where the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Ibrahim Ezekiel, acknowledged residents’ complaints about electricity failure and billing issues.
The police advised the organisers to seek constructive dialogue with relevant electricity authorities rather than stage protests that could disrupt public order, while assuring residents of its commitment to maintaining law and order.
