Matawalle Denies US Bribery Allegation, Describes Claims As False And Baseless
The Office of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has strongly refuted allegations suggesting that he attempted to bribe a United States official, dismissing the claims as entirely false and without any factual basis.
The denial was conveyed in an official statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Minister’s Personal Assistant on Media, Ahmad Dan-Wudil. The statement, which was made available to journalists, described the allegation as lacking credibility and failing to reflect the character and conduct of the Minister.
According to the Minister’s office, the accusation—reportedly linked to a member of the Florida House of Representatives—was both misleading and unsubstantiated. It maintained that at no point had Matawalle engaged in, or supported, any act of bribery or unethical behavior.
The statement further characterized the reports as a calculated attempt to damage the Minister’s reputation, alleging that they form part of a broader campaign of calumny and malicious propaganda aimed at discrediting his public service record.
Reaffirming Matawalle’s stance, the office stressed that he remains committed to upholding integrity and transparency in the discharge of his duties. It added that the Minister would not be distracted by what it described as baseless accusations, noting that his focus remains on national security responsibilities and service to the country.
The office also called on the public to disregard the reports in their entirety, insisting they are unfounded and should not be given any credence.
