Netflix Reportedly Exploring Long-Term Future for Wednesday as Jenna Ortega Could Continue Through Season 6

Netflix Reportedly Exploring Long-Term Future for Wednesday as Jenna Ortega Could Continue Through Season 6

Netflix’s hit supernatural series Wednesday could be heading toward a much longer run, with reports suggesting that the streaming giant is in discussions over a potential three-season extension that could ultimately take the Jenna Ortega-led series through Season 6.

For fans of Wednesday Addams and the mysterious world of Nevermore Academy, such a development would represent a major expansion of the show’s future. However, it is important to stress that the reported extension has not been officially announced by Netflix. What is confirmed is that Wednesday has already been renewed for a third season, which is currently in production.

A Potential Six-Season Journey for Wednesday Addams

If the reported discussions result in a formal agreement, Ortega could potentially remain in the role of Wednesday Addams through a sixth season.

That would give the series considerably more room to develop its central character, expand the Addams Family mythology and explore the mysteries surrounding Nevermore Academy. Rather than having to bring Wednesday’s story to an early conclusion, the writers could build a much longer narrative across several additional chapters.

The possibility is particularly notable because Wednesday has established a world that extends beyond its title character. The series combines supernatural mysteries, family drama, school rivalries, friendships and the unusual culture of Nevermore Academy, creating several storylines that could potentially be developed over multiple seasons.

Season 3 Is Already Confirmed

While talk of Seasons 4 through 6 remains unconfirmed, the immediate future of the franchise is already secure.

Netflix officially renewed Wednesday for a third season in July 2025, ahead of the release of Season 2. Netflix’s own Tudum coverage subsequently confirmed that Season 3 is moving forward, with Ortega returning as Wednesday.

Production is underway, with Netflix announcing a substantial cast for the new season. The upcoming chapter also introduces new developments within the Addams Family, including Eva Green as Aunt Ophelia.

Netflix has indicated that Season 3 will continue expanding the world of Nevermore while exploring more of Wednesday’s family and the secrets surrounding them.

Jenna Ortega’s Defining Role

A potential run through Season 6 would also make Wednesday Addams an increasingly significant part of Jenna Ortega’s career.

Ortega first appeared as Wednesday when the series premiered in 2022, and the character quickly became closely associated with her performance. Netflix describes the series as following Wednesday as she investigates supernatural mysteries while making friends and enemies at Nevermore Academy.

The role has also given Ortega opportunities beyond acting. She has been involved as an executive producer on the series, further connecting her to the show’s creative development.

Continuing the character for several more seasons could therefore represent a substantial long-term creative commitment, potentially allowing Ortega to explore different stages of Wednesday’s development while maintaining the distinctive personality that has become central to the series.

More Room for the Addams Family

One of the biggest implications of a longer Wednesday run would be the opportunity to explore more members of the Addams Family.

Netflix has already demonstrated its willingness to expand the mythology. Season 3 is set to introduce Aunt Ophelia, while the show’s creators have previously discussed their interest in exploring additional characters and different corners of the Addams Family universe.

A multi-season extension could allow those stories to develop gradually rather than being compressed into a single storyline. Wednesday’s relationship with Morticia, Gomez and Pugsley could also continue evolving as the central character matures.

Nevermore Could Remain at the Center

Nevermore Academy has become one of the defining locations in the series, providing the setting for much of Wednesday’s supernatural investigations and personal conflicts.

An extended run could allow the writers to introduce new students, teachers, threats and mysteries while continuing to develop established characters. The reported long-term plan would also give the series flexibility to move beyond the academy when necessary, as Season 3 is already teasing a different setting, including a possible Paris detour.

That wider storytelling potential could become increasingly important if Netflix decides to continue the series well beyond its third season.

A Report, Not Yet a Renewal

For now, however, the distinction between reported discussions and confirmed plans remains important.

Netflix has officially confirmed Wednesday Season 3, but there is currently no official announcement confirming Seasons 4, 5 and 6. Reports about a three-season extension should therefore be treated as a potential future development rather than an established production commitment.

What is certain is that Wednesday Addams is returning, with Season 3 already in production and Netflix continuing to expand the world surrounding the character.

If the reported discussions eventually become a formal agreement, fans could be looking at several more years of Jenna Ortega’s interpretation of one of the most recognizable characters in the Addams Family universe.

For now, the mystery surrounding Wednesday’s long-term future remains open — appropriately enough for a show built around secrets, strange discoveries and things that are never quite what they seem.
