INEC Uploads FCT Chairmanship Results on IReV
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the electronic upload of results from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council chairmanship elections to its Result Viewing (IReV) portal, as collation of votes continues across the territory.
As of Saturday evening, polling-unit results from all six Area Councils — Abuja Municipal (AMAC), Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali and Abaji — were progressively appearing on the public portal, enabling parties, observers and voters to track outcomes in real time.
Upload data showed AMAC leading with 847 of its 1,401 polling-unit results already available online, followed by Bwari with 255 of 485, Gwagwalada 204 of 338, Kuje 115 of 262, Kwali 75 of 201, and Abaji 42 of 135.
The elections were conducted across 2,822 polling units to fill six chairmanship and 62 councillorship positions in the FCT. INEC had assured voters ahead of the polls that results would be electronically transmitted in line with the Electoral Act provisions on digital result management.
The ongoing uploads mark one of the most extensive uses of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and IReV result-transmission framework in local government elections, a process widely viewed as a key test ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Observers reported that voting was largely peaceful across the FCT, though turnout was generally low in several locations. Collation of results is continuing at ward and Area Council levels, with further uploads expected as the process advances.
