BREAKING: Power Minister Adelabu Resigns to Pursue Oyo Governorship Bid
Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has resigned from his position in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet to focus on his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
In his resignation letter dated March 26, 2026, Adelabu expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve, stating that his decision was driven by his determination to fully commit to the 2027 Oyo State governorship race.
He noted that it was an honour contributing to efforts aimed at improving Nigeria’s power sector under the administration’s agenda, but emphasised the need to dedicate his time and resources to his political ambition.
Adelabu’s exit marks a significant development within the Federal Executive Council as political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.
The resignation follows directives for political appointees interested in elective offices to step down ahead of party primaries, under provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.
