The evacuation flights will be operated by Air Peace, and the first flight, which will airlift about 270 passengers, is expected to leave Johannesburg on Wednesday.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, confirmed the approval in a statement released yesterday.
The evacuation follows recent protests in South Africa targeting foreign nationals from African countries, during which shops owned by Nigerians were attacked, while others have been killed in a series of attacks against foreign nationals.
Additionally, Nigeria’s mission in Pretoria has also announced that screening of Nigerian nationals that have indicated interest to be evacuated back home has been extended to Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
