El-Rufai Vs Mr President
Is this a political betrayal?
Lets take us back through a bit of History.
Nasir El-Rufai wasn’t just a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
He was one of the primary architects and founding fathers of the APC.
El-Rufai was a key member of the merger committee that fused the ACN, CPC, and ANPP to form the APC in 2013.
His impact in the APC was so massive that He moved from being the Deputy National Secretary of the party to becoming its first elected Governor in Kaduna state.
During Muhammadu Buhari’s presidency, El-Rufai was one of the few governors with direct, frequent access to the Villa and often served as a bridge between the presidency and the other governors.
When there were rumors that the “cabal” in the presidency wanted a Northern candidate (like Ahmad Lawan) to succeed Buhari, El-Rufai led the Northern APC Governors to insist that power must shift to the South.
This ultimately led to the emergence of Ahmed Tinubu as the APC flag bearer.
Nasir El-Rufai was very instrumental in rallying Northern support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In fact, in several occasions, He famously went on national television to declare that there were “elements” in the Presidential Villa working against Tinubu’s candidacy.
He was a rock that stood behind PBAT, such that he even effectively blow the whistle on hidden internal sabotage against PBAT
This is why the Fallout between El-Rufai and the Presidency is so Dramatic
It’s so Dramatic and particularly striking considering how much El-Rufai sacrificed to bring the current administration of PBAT into power.
After BPAT assumed office, El-Rufai was expected to be the “Super Minister” of Power and Gas.
His dramatic rejection by the Senate on “security grounds”—reportedly spearheaded by the same people he helped into power must have been the height of political betrayal anyone could experience.
Since then, El-Rufai has loudly spoken against this Government and is even actively meeting opposition candidates in closed door meetings in respect to 2027 general elections
Is the Presidency afraid of El-Rufai?
Is this why there are sudden charges of money laundering flying against him?
This fight is happening at a very interesting and strategic time
