INEC Seeks Peace Committee Support to Restore Trust Ahead of 2027 Polls
The Independent National Electoral Commission has called on the National Peace Committee and other stakeholders to intensify efforts to rebuild public trust ahead of the Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, made the appeal this Monday during a stakeholder briefing and presentation of the Annotated Peace Accord organised by the Peace Committee in Abuja.
He warned that voter apathy and a growing trust deficit threaten democratic legitimacy. He said credible elections must not only be lawful but also widely accepted by the public.
Amupitan added that the commission is strengthening transparency measures, tackling misinformation with security agencies, sanitising the voter register and pushing for timely release of election funds to ensure proper preparation for 2027.
