56-year-old man sentenced to 60 years in jail for d+filing a 9-year-old child
A High Court sitting in Orereokpe has sentenced a 56-year-old man, identified as Mr Collins, to 60 years imprisonment with hard labour for d+filing a nine-year-old child in 2023.
Reports have it that the incident occurred in Ugolo, a community in Delta State. Following the trial, the court also ordered the convict to pay ₦50 million in compensation to the victim.
It was further gathered that during the course of the case, the convict allegedly attempted to bribe activist Israel Joe with ₦111,000 to drop the matter.
However, the bribe was rejected and handed over to the police in Orereokpe. Israel Joe was said to have continued monitoring the case to ensure that justice was pursued.
The judgment was delivered on February 25, 2026, bringing the legal proceedings to a close. Local radio stations announced the verdict on Wednesday morning, drawing reactions from members of the public who expressed relief that the case had been concluded.
