Oyebanji, Fayose rally Ekiti for Tinubu as APC gains PDP defectors
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his predecessor Ayodele Fayose, canvassed support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The duo spoke this Monday at a political rally in Ikere-Ekiti where a former House of Representatives candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Henrich Akomolafe, defected with his supporters to the All Progressives Congress.
Oyebanji urged residents to mobilise massive support for Tinubu’s second-term bid, setting a target of 600,000 votes for the president from Ekiti State.
He said Tinubu’s re-election would consolidate ongoing economic reforms and further accelerate development in the country and the state.
Fayose, who remains a PDP chieftain, said he had no regrets supporting Oyebanji’s administration and pledged to mobilise support for Tinubu despite being in the opposition.
Akomolafe said his defection was driven by the developmental strides recorded under Oyebanji’s leadership, adding that the APC government’s performance convinced him and his supporters to join the ruling party.
