Cubana Chiefpriest strongly defends his decision not to support Peter Obi in the next election
Socialite and businessman Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chief Priest, has strongly defended his decision to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 election instead of Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, stating that he cannot help the Igbo cause from the opposition.
In February 2026, he declared his intention to run for a House of Representatives seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and provided the following justifications for his political shift.
- “No Fit Help Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from Opposition”: Addressing criticism from online users, he argued that to effect change—specifically regarding the release of the detained IPOB leader—he must operate within the ruling party, not as an opposition member.
- Loyalty to the Center/APC: He clarified that despite supporting Peter Obi in 2023, he has always been APC and is currently aligned with the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Tinubu.
- Previous Role as Special Adviser: He explained that his support for Peter Obi in 2023 was done while he was serving as a Special Adviser to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, a member of the APC.
- Strategic Politics for the South-East: He argued that the South-East needs young, influential voices embedded within the federal system to negotiate for the region’s interests effectively.
The celebrity barman has faced criticism from fans and followers for his change in alliance, but he has maintained that his decision is a “deliberate move” to transition from social media influencing to active, high-level governance.
