World fuel crisis: World’s Fourth-biggest Oil Refinery Shut Down in UAE After Drone strike Attack
One of the world’s largest oil refineries, the Ruwais Refinery in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, has been shut down after a drone attack triggered a fire in the surrounding industrial complex.
Authorities confirmed that the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) halted operations at the massive facility as a precautionary measure while emergency teams responded to the incident and assessed potential damage.
The Ruwais complex is considered the fourth-largest single-site refinery in the world, with the capacity to process over 900,000 barrels of crude oil per day, making it a critical part of global energy supply.
Officials said the drone strike caused a fire within Ruwais Industrial City, though it is still unclear whether the refinery itself was directly hit. No injuries have been reported so far.
The attack comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East linked to the ongoing U.S.–Israel–Iran conflict, which has already led to multiple strikes on oil infrastructure across the region, raising fears of disruptions to global oil supply and fuel prices.
