This must be in preparation of a potential US-backed offensive against Islamic State affiliate ISWAP in northeast Nigeria. Simple.
Am sure that America is not just sampling military equipments. The type coming here clearly indicates preparation for war.
Between February 6 and 14, six US Air Force cargo planes landed in West Africa, all of them stopping in Accra, Ghana first. Five of them landed later on in Nigerian Air Force bases, while the sixth aircraft only arrived today and will likely follow the route towards the northeast as well.
I think the other serious indication is that America has finally established a military base in Nigeria, using the back door of fighting insurgents. I have pointed out this before. I am not against it as far as they will declare war on this islamic State jihadists who wants to run over West Africa, especially, Nigeria. They are welcome, no matter how the found themselves in here.
On February 10, American and Nigerian officials told WSJ that the US was to send 200 US troops to Nigeria. Since then we have witnessed
– 1x C-17A to Kainji Airbase
– 1x C-130J-30 to Maiduguri Airbase, Borno
– 3x C-17A to Maiduguri Airbase, Borno
All of them left the respective bases on the same day they landed.
Since the focus is on the islamic terrorists Maiduguri Airbase will likely be the primary base of operations for supporting the Nigerian army against ISWAP. This is a critical location as the IS affiliate currently controls most of Borno State rural areas.
The volume of the delivery and the type of aircraft used by the USAF indicates that very heavy equipment is being sent to Maiduguri Airbase, I suspect at least one or more MQ-9 Reaper drones, attack helicopters and of course a large number of US troops.
Anything that will stop insurgency, any force that will fight these jihadists, is highly welcomed.
The point is that American president being a Republican has discovered the danger in allowing the Islamic State to build a strong cell capacity in West Africa. From there a major attack on American interest globally can be launched.
On the other hands, Democrats rather seem to aid the Islamic State, we saw how Obama was dropping millions of dollars, pharmaceuticals, foods etc to ISIS in Syria under the pretence of using them to fight then President Hassan of Syria.
We saw how Obama disorganised Libya and opened the door for all types of tereorists groups to rush and and started using Libya as their cell links to destabilize West Africa.
We saw how Obama was all out in Nigeria and went extra mile to make that Buhari that Boko Haram singled out as the official patron, a role he openly accepted and defended them as his deranged brothers, was imposed on Nigerians through violent attacks.
