CAF Secretary Resigns as AFCON Set for Major Changes
The General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Veron Mosengo-Omba, has resigned after five years in office, citing a desire to retire peacefully following a controversial tenure.
His resignation comes amid fallout from the 2025 AFCON final, where Senegal were stripped of their win against Morocco after a disputed penalty incident, with the case now before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
CAF confirmed that competitions director, Samson Adamu, will serve as interim General Secretary while the process to appoint a permanent replacement begins.
CAF President, Patrice Motsepe, also announced that the Africa Cup of Nations will expand from 24 to 28 teams and shift from a biennial to a four-year tournament after 2027.
The body further revealed plans to introduce a Nations League-style competition from 2029 to maintain regular fixtures and boost revenue across its 54 member associations.
