NAUTH Nursing Students Protest Over Hike in school fees from ₦90k to ₦580k

Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi, School of Nursing, have protested the “shocking increase” in their tuition fees from N90,000 to N580,000.

The fee increase was announced in an internal memo on January 23 by O. I. Ezejiofor. The memo explained that the rise was part of efforts to upgrade the college and cover rising operational costs, including tuition, maintenance, medical, library, and examination fees.

Students marched in front of the hospital’s main gate, this Tuesday, carrying placards and chanting songs to protest the steep increase. Some wore nursing uniforms, while others dressed casually, showing their frustration over the financial burden.

The student union president, Chukwuelue Chisom, said the union was engaging the management to address students’ concerns and explore possible support measures, urging students to channel complaints through official channels rather than social media.
