Family of Ghanaian transgender woman uses his male photo on funeral poster instead of the woman she was before she died

A one-week observance poster for Ghanaian transgender figure Madina Broni has succeeded in starting an i,ntriguing convo online.

Madina Broni, who also identified Angela Coleman, was reported to have passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, after a short illness.

The family scheduled the one-week observance for March 5, 2026, at 8:00 am at Madina Zongo Junction.

But here is where the issue started.

A poster shared on February 26 by another famed Ghanaian transgender Angel Maxine showed a man’s photo and the name Prince Kwasi Bentil, even though Madina Broni had publicly lived as a woman and claimed to have undergone gender-affirming surgery.

That move did not sit well with some friends.

Angel Maxine did not hide her disappointment. She questioned why someone who lived openly as a woman would be presented differently in death.

“When someone lives openly in her truth and is known by a name the world recognises, why take that away in death? Are we honouring her or quietly erasing her story? If you love us, love us as we are, in life and in death. Madina Broni deserved to be remembered as herself. How can I support this?” she asked.
