Bandits Abduct 50 Zamfara Elders During Reconciliation Mission

No fewer than 50 elderly residents of Magamin Diddi village in the Magami/Faru Ward of Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State have reportedly been abducted by suspected bandits while on a reconciliation mission aimed at fostering peace in the troubled community.

According to reports, the victims were part of a delegation of elders who embarked on a peace and reconciliation initiative when they were intercepted and taken away by armed assailants. The incident has heightened concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of Zamfara State, where communities continue to grapple with recurring attacks, kidnappings and other forms of criminal violence.

Residents said the abduction has thrown the community into panic, with families anxiously awaiting information about the whereabouts and safety of the victims. Local sources described the kidnapped elders as respected community leaders who had dedicated themselves to promoting dialogue and peaceful coexistence among residents.

The latest incident adds to the growing list of mass abductions recorded in Zamfara and other parts of northwestern Nigeria, where armed groups have increasingly targeted rural communities despite ongoing security operations by government forces.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident. However, residents and community leaders have appealed to the authorities to intensify rescue efforts and strengthen security measures to ensure the safe return of the abducted elders and prevent further attacks in the area.
