From 2,000 Calls a Day to Near Silence — Late Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s Son Opens Up on Life After Power

Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has shared how much life changed after his father left office.

He said that when former President Goodluck Jonathan called to congratulate his father on winning the presidency, his phone started ringing nonstop.

At one point, he received around 2,000 calls every day, starting as early as 4 a.m. Callers included old classmates, relatives, former staff, and people who had known the Buhari family in the past.

Many calls were for unclear reasons, and his assistant often had to politely end them.

After his father handed over power to President Bola Tinubu, the calls dropped to about 100 a day. Following his father’s burial, the number fell even further to roughly 20 calls daily, mostly from siblings and business contacts.

Yusuf said now the phone hardly rings, showing that most people only stay close when there’s influence or power.
