Iran’s National Football Team Cleared To Play 2026 FIFA World Cup in USAย
With 93 days to kick off and a live military confl!ct between the US and Iran in the background, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that Donald Trump personally assured him Iran’s national team is welcome to compete on American soil this summer.
Infantino met with Trump on Tuesday evening to discuss preparations for the tournament.
In a statement posted on Instagram shortly after the meeting, Infantino wrote: “We also spoke about the current situation in Iran, and the fact that the Iranian team has qualified to participate in the FIFA World Cup 2026. During the discussions, President Trump reiterated that the Iranian team is, of course, welcome to compete in the tournament in the United States.”
The confirmation carries real weight given how uncertain Iran’s participation had become. Just last week, Trump himself said “I really don’t care” when asked whether Iran would be at the World Cup, adding “I think Iran is a very badly defeated country, they’re running on fumes.” His position has now visibly softened following the Infantino meeting.
