Anti–El-Rufai Protesters Besiege EFCC Headquarters, Demand Former Governor’s Arrest
Anti–El-Rufai protesters stormed the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja on Monday, demanding the immediate arrest and detention of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The demonstrators converged on the commission’s premises as El-Rufai arrived to honour an invitation from investigators, chanting slogans and displaying placards accusing him of corruption, financial mismanagement, and abuse of office during his tenure. Security personnel were deployed around the facility to maintain order and prevent clashes between the protesters and El-Rufai’s supporters, who had also mobilised in large numbers to escort him to the EFCC complex.
The charged atmosphere underscored growing political tensions surrounding the probe, although the precise trigger for the protest and the commission’s immediate next steps were not clear at press time.
PON will continue to monitor the situation and report developments as they unfold.
