Gunmen Invade Ondo Palace, Kill Monarch
Armed attackers have killed a traditional ruler in Ondo State after invading his palace in what authorities described as an attempted abduction, police confirmed on Thursday.
The victim, Oba Kehinde Jacob Falodun, was the monarch of Agamo community in Akure North Local Government Area. Residents said the assailants stormed the palace on Wednesday evening and tried to seize the ruler.
Sources in the community said the monarch resisted the attackers, after which he was fatally wounded. His body was later discovered near the palace, throwing the agrarian settlement into mourning and panic.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the killing, stating that an investigation had begun and a manhunt launched for the perpetrators. Police spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh said operatives were working to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Authorities have not announced any arrests or identified the attackers, and their motive and affiliation remain unknown as of press time.
The killing has renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of Ondo State, particularly rural communities that have experienced repeated raids and kidnappings in recent years. Community leaders called for increased security presence and protection for traditional institutions.
