The moment El Mencho was bur!ed in a golden casket with the Mexican Army standing guard
El Mencho, the most feared c,artel boss in Mexico, was laid to rest on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the Recinto de la Paz cemetery in Zapopan, Guadalajara.
He was carried in a shiny golden casket surrounded by enormous flower wreaths, while dozens of m,ourners followed the procession carrying black umbrellas under a sunny sky, with a band playing Mexican regional banda music.
Over 500 flower wreaths arrived at the funβ¬ral home, and almost all were sent anonymously. Some bore the image of a rooster, a nod to his nickname “Lord of the Roosters.”
El Mencho died on February 22 from multiple b+llet ,wounds to his chest after the Army tracked him down through one of his romantic partners. He passed away while in a military helicopter on the way to Mexico City.
The man the US government could not catch for over a decade, who e,vaded a $15 million bounty, was bur!ed the way he lived, in gold.
