“Ndígbo Are a Defeated People; I Made a Mistake Associating With One of Their Sons in the 2023 Election” — Cubana Chief Priest

Nigerian celebrity barman and businessman, Cubana Chief Priest, has sparked reactions online after describing the Igbo people as a “defeated people” following the Nigerian Civil War while explaining his current political stance.

In a statement circulating on social media, the nightlife entrepreneur admitted that he did not support Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the last presidential election because he wanted to stand with fellow Igbo candidate, Peter Obi. However, he said he now believes that decision was a mistake.

According to him, he supported Obi at the time mainly out of ethnic loyalty, but now feels Ndígbo must adopt a more strategic political approach in order to secure a fair share in Nigeria’s political system.

In his words, he said:

“At the past election I didn’t support Tinubu because I wanted to be an Igbo boy by supporting Peter Obi, and I made some careless mistakes. I was a fool then, but not anymore. We’re just looking for a fair share in this government.

We Igbos are a people defeated during the war, and it hasn’t been easy for us in Nigeria. That’s why we want to be smart this time around to get what we want. We don’t want to lose again, and we will never waste our votes again. That’s why we’re standing with the City Boy movement and Tinubu.”

He also hinted at growing ties between the Tinubu political camp and the Igbo community, claiming that Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is set to marry an Igbo woman.

“Also, they won’t tell you that Seyi Tinubu is marrying an Igbo girl. He is our brother and our own,” he added.
