A 60-year-old British tourist has been arrested in Dubai after allegedly filming Iranian mi+siles hitting the city and is now facing up to two years in prison for a cybercr+me offence. The Londoner reportedly deleted the video when asked and insists he did not intend to break the law.
He is among 21 people charged over social media posts and videos related to recent mi+sile strikes on the UAE. Authorities allege the offences involved “broadcasting, publishing, republishing or circulating rumours or provocative propaganda that could disturb public security.”
Dubai’s government has been heavily policing social media since the outbreak of conflict, thre+tening jail for anyone sharing information that might incite panic. Many videos of the str+kes that circulated early in the conflict have disappeared, replaced by posts praising the government.
Once a tax-free haven attracting thousands of British expats and social media influencers, Dubai has been hit by repeated missile and drone att@cks, including str+kes on hotels, high-rise buildings, and the international airport. Residents report widespread fear, with many fleeing the city and some saying Dubai’s appeal is “finished.”
