Breaking News: Explosions Rock Maiduguri

Several explosions have been reported in different parts of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, causing panic among residents on Monday evening.

According to multiple eyewitnesses, the blasts occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on March 16, 2026, in at least three locations across the city.

A resident, Abdul Ahmed, told journalists that two of the explosions were heard around the El-Kanemi Monday Market area and near the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

Another resident, Fadila Abdulrahman, confirmed the incidents and said an additional explosion was reported around the Post Office area within the city.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact cause of the explosions has not been officially confirmed. However, some residents suspect the blasts may be linked to attacks by insurgents from Boko Haram, who have carried out similar attacks in the region in the past.

Security agencies are yet to release an official statement regarding casualties or the extent of damage.
