Senegal To Take CAF To Court After Being Stripped Of 2025 AFCON Title And Handed Over To Morocco
One of the most controversial decisions in African football history has just received a legal sequel: Senegal’s football federation has announced it will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after the CAF Appeal Board stripped Senegal of its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and handed it to Morocco.
Senegal had beaten Morocco 1-0 on January 18, 2026, to lift the AFCON trophy on Moroccan soil in what was already a politically charged final, given that Morocco was the host nation.
However, CAF’s Appeal Board, following a challenge from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, ruled that Senegal had breached competition regulations through the conduct of their team during the match. The result was officially changed to a 3-0 forfeit in Morocco’s favour, handing the Atlas Lions the continental title without replaying a single minute of football.
The Fédération Sénégalaise de Football did not hold back in their official response, describing the ruling as “unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable” and w,arning that the decision undermines the credibility of the entire continent’s football governance.
