Telecom Operators Demand New Broadband Policy as Nigeria Misses Key Digital Targets

Telecommunications operators in Nigeria have renewed calls for a new and more effective broadband policy framework following the expiration of the National Broadband Plan (2020–2025), citing missed targets and weak implementation as major setbacks.

Industry stakeholders noted that despite clear goals set under the previous plan, execution challenges—particularly around infrastructure rollout and policy coordination—limited its overall impact. Nigeria also failed to meet its 70% broadband penetration target by 2025, with penetration standing at about 51.97%.
