US seeks bilateral pact with Nigeria to end Christian persecution
The United States Congress has called for a bilateral agreement between Washington and Abuja to protect Christian communities and address insecurity in Nigeria.
The recommendation was announced this Tuesday, in a joint decision by the US House Appropriations Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and was shared on X by Congressman, Riley Moore.
The lawmakers commended President Donald Trump for redesignating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern and called for visa bans and sanctions on individuals accused of religious persecution.
The US congress also urged both countries to form a stronger security and economic partnership, saying that Nigeria must show greater political will to end violence and protect vulnerable communities.
